College teacher's daughter allegedly faces kidnapping attempt in Cumilla
A complaint has been filed at Chauddagram Police Station against local resident Milon Molla and 4-5 other unidentified individuals
An alleged attempt to kidnap the seven-year-old daughter of a college teacher was reported in Chauddagram upazila of Cumilla today (22 January).
The incident occurred on the grounds of Kankapait Government Primary School.
The victim, a grade II student at the same school, is the daughter of Parveen Akhter, a lecturer in Logic at Al Haj Noor Mia Degree College in Konkapait Union.
The victim's father is a journalist of an English newspaper based in Dhaka.
Victim's uncle Main Uddin filed a complaint at Chauddagram Police Station against Milon Molla, son of Abdus Sattar Molla of Pathanpara village, and four to five other unidentified individuals.
According to the complaint, the child resides with her mother in the residential building of Al Haj Noor Mia Degree College. This morning, around 9:30am, the mother accompanied the child to school and left her at the school premises.
While on the school grounds, Milon Molla allegedly grabbed the child's hand and attempted to drag her away in an abduction attempt. However, the child's screams drew the attention of nearby school teachers, prompting Milon Molla to flee the scene.
The complaint further stated that the incident has left the child and her family feeling insecure and seeking assurances of their safety.
ATM Aktaruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Chauddagram Police Station, confirmed receiving the complaint and stated that an investigation is underway and appropriate legal action will be taken.
