Cox's Bazar man kills mother for denying drug money, surrenders to police
He frequently abused his mother for money to buy drugs, say locals
A man in Cox's Bazar has brutally hacked his mother to death after being denied money for drugs.
Police arrested the man, identified as Hossain Mohammad Abid, 28, when he surrendered to the police in the early hours today (23 November), said Elias Khan, officer-in-charge of Cox's Bazar Sadar police station.
The deceased mother has been identified as Anwara Begum Mary, 55.
Locals at Cox's Bazar's West Baruapur area said Abid frequently abused his mother for money to buy drugs.
Around 2:30am today, he fatally hacked his mother. Only the mother and the son were at home during the incident, as Niaz Ahmed, the sick father, was staying at his daughter's house in Chattogram for treatment.
The deceased woman had wounds on her face, head, and hands. After the murder, Abid locked the door from the outside and went to the police station to report the crime himself, said Sourav, a sub-inspector of Cox's Bazar Sadar police station.
The police later arrived at the spot and recovered the body.
The body has been sent to the morgue for an autopsy, said Elias Khan, the Cox's Bazar police station OC.
