Charges pressed against Nasir Uddin, Omi in Narcotics case
The investigation officer has dropped names of three female accused in the case as their involvement with the incident was not proved
The Detectives Branch (DB) of police has pressed charges against Nasir Uddin Mahmud, 65, former president of Uttara Club Limited, and Tuhin Siddique Omi, 33, an associate of Nasir, in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act with Airport Police Station.
The investigation officer has dropped the names of three female accused – Lipi Akter, 18, Sumi Akter, 19, and Nazma Ameen Bristy, 24 – from the case as their involvement with the incident was not proved, said Sub-Inspector Farid Uddin, a general recording officer at the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court (CMM).
He said the DB submitted the charge sheet to the CMM of Dhaka on 27 July but due to restrictions amid strict lockdown the proceeding got delayed.
The five were arrested on 14 June after film actress Pori Moni had filed a case over an attempt to rape and murder against Nasir, Omi and four others with Savar Police Station.+
A team of detectives on 14 June carried out a raid at a house in Uttara's Sector-1 and arrested them.
The team recovered local and foreign liquor and 1,000 pieces of yaba tablets from their possession during the drive.
Later Manik Kumar Sikder, a sub-inspector of DB's Gulshan zonal team, filed the case against Nasir, Omi and three others with Airport Police Station.
In the case, the women with Nasir Uddin are on bail while Omi is in custody.
