Man arrested for killing his ex-wife
The accused confessed of his crime during primary interrogation
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), on Sunday, arrested a man from Cumilla for allegedly killing his former wife five months ago.
Sohel Rana, 25, the arrested man, is from Nabinagar in Brahmanbaria district. The deceased was Hashi Akhter, 20, from Amin Bazar area of Savar.
Md Mozammel Haque, commanding officer of RAB-4, said that the accused confessed of his crime during primary interrogation.
When asked why it took five months to arrest the accused, Mozammel Haque refused to comment.
"On May 1, Sohel forcefully entered my daughter's rented house, located in Aminbazar area of Savar, and demanded money from her. When she refused to give any money, he beat her mercilessly, leaving her senseless," deceased's mother Amena Begum said.
Later, the owner of the house rushed severely injured and senseless Hashi to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries on May 7, after spending 6 days in life support.
After Hashi became senseless, Sohel took Tk30,000 and 3 bhori gold (worth Tk1,20,000) from the house, hashi's mother added.
Earlier, the couple got divorced, just after 2 months of marriage, as the husband used to torture her both mentally and physically.
As Hashi thought her problems ended after the divorce, she took a job and started living in a rented house, said her mother, adding that when Hasi was living on her own, Sohel used to follow her, demanding money.
Amena Begum filed a case against Sohel at the Savar Police Station, sending Sohel in hiding.
