Ex-joint secy of parliament Kibria held at border for 'attempting to flee to India'
The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained AKMG Kibria Majumdar, former joint secretary at the parliament secretariat, for attempting to illegally cross the border to flee to India from Kasba Upazila in Brahmanbaria.
A patrol team of BGB-60 Battalion held him at the Putia border area at around 12:30pm this afternoon (12 October), the BGB said in a press release.
According to the BGB, Kibria has been linked to various criminal activities during the recent Anti-discrimination Student Movement. To avoid arrest, he was attempting to flee to India.
Lieutenant Colonel AM Jabir Bin Jabbar, commander of BGB-60 Battalion, said preparations are underway to file a case against the detainee at the police station.
Additionally, BGB members are keeping a vigilant watch at the border to prevent anyone from illegally fleeing the country, said the release.
