Abetted by Hasina, India broke international laws by building barbed wire fences on the border: Rizvi
Stating that India has built fences around more than 3,000km of border areas, Rizvi added only 800km of border areas are left without any fences
India has built barbed wire fences at 160 points on the border with the help of ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, said BNP's Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today (13 January).
"India is not following the international laws and the agreements with Bangladesh. Although the laws and agreements bar India from carrying out any development planning within 150 meters of the zero point on the border, it is refraining from holding discussions with Bangladesh on this issue. India put up fences at Lalmonirhat and other border areas breaking the laws," he said.
The BNP senior joint secretary made the remarks at a prayer programme held by Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal at the party's Naya Paltan headquarters.
He said, "India has committed many unequal activities through receiving support from Sheikh Hasina during 2010-2023 period. They have forcefully built fences at the border without discussing the matter with Bangladesh.
"I am telling you, India has put up barbed wire fences at 160 points at the border while benefitting from Hasina during her rule, which has weakened our sovereignty."
Stating that India has built fences around more than 3,000km of border areas, Rizvi added only 800km of border areas are left without any fences.
"When Hasina was in power, she did not let people stand against the Indian government's decision to build barbed wire fences at the border. Border Guard Bangladesh [BGB] could not resist India from doing this either. Hasina has worked as a disciple of India through fascism and brutality," Rizvi added.
Senior leaders of BNP were present during the programme.
