Man killed in ‘gunfight’ with police in Bhola
There are various cases against Shafiqul including murder, robbery, abduction and extortion.
A suspected pirate was killed in a 'gunfight' with the police in Veduria ferry terminal area in Bhola early Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Shafiqul Islam, 40, resident of Kalupora village of East Elisha union under Bhola sadar.
Police recovered a shooter gun, live rounds and locally made weapons from the scene.
The body has been sent to Bhola Sadar hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Sarkar Mohammad Kaysar said, "Around 3am, a team patrolling the Veduria ferry terminal area heard gunshots and reported the incident to the control room."
"Later when two teams were sent to the spot, the miscreants fired shots at the police and the police fired four rounds of bullets in self-defence."
"At one stage the pirate gang fled the scene in a trawler and the police recovered the body lying on the spot and sent it for autopsy. Later, in the morning, family members of the deceased identified the body", added SP Kaysar.
Filing of a case was under process, he said.
