The mugging took place in front of the Raymond showroom in the Alokar Mor area of the city.
Proprietor of Vivo mobile showroom Anjan Kumar Roy said, "My two employees were going to Dutch Bangla Bank at Alokar Mor to deposit Tk37 lakh in two bags. I got the money by selling goods. My two employees were a short distance from the showroom when two muggers appeared on a motorbike and snatched the bag containing Tk33 lakh."
After viewing the CCTV footage, Nibarun Chandra Barman, the officer-in-charge of Boalia Police Station, said the incident seemed to be prearranged. The footage shows the two Vivo staff members walking along the road, and two people on a motorbike come and snatch the bag from them quite freely. The two employees did not try to stop the hijackers. There was a huge crowd there. This type of thing can happen only if the incident is prearranged.
