Mother-daughter tortured for nonpayment of loan interest in Gazipur
The victim mother fell prey to a fraudster who claimed himself to be ‘Jin-er Badshah’ – king of ghost – and tricked the borrowed money from her.
A woman and her daughter have reportedly been tortured after being tied to a tree at Fulbaria of Kaliakair upazila in Gazipur on Thursday, for failure to pay the interest of money she borrowed from a creditor.
The woman lodged a complaint with the local police station in this regard.
According to locals, Momtaz Begum, 30, and her 16-year-old daughter were tied to a jackfruit tree in front of her house at Sirapur area of Fulbaria around 10.30 am on Thursday and beaten up mercilessly by creditor Gafur Mia and his accomplices.
Before leaving the spot, the creditor also threatened to kill the duo unless Momtaz repay the loan with interest soon.
Later, the local UP member along with neighbours rescued the victims.
It was learnt that the woman borrowed TK17,000 from Kulsum, wife of Abdul Gafur, two months ago and failed to repay its interest in due time.
Although she took 1 month more to repay the loan interest, the creditor carried out the brutal assault before the deadline.
Momtaz Begum said she fell prey to a fraudster who claimed himself to be 'Jin-er Badshah' – king of ghost – and tricked the borrowed money from her.
Kaliakair Police Station Officer-in-Charge Monwar Hossain Chowdhury said police personnel were sent to the spot.
"A complaint has been received from the victims. Drive is underway to arrest the accused," he added.
