Munshiganj restaurant demolished using excavators at night by unidentified people

A restaurant at Gajaria of Munshiganj has been demolished by unidentified individuals.
The incident took place at around 2:30am today (7 February), said Md Jasim Uddin, owner of the eatery - the Kahudi Restaurant, located at Puran Baushia area adjacent to the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway.
Jasim, who is also the Munshiganj correspondent of the Daily Bangladesh, claimed that he suffered a loss of Tk70 lakh in the incident.
He also claimed there is an ongoing dispute between him and Kamrul Hasan Shamim, a resident of Puran Baushia village, regarding the land the restaurant was situated on.
"There are several ongoing cases in court over the dispute," he said.
He alleged that Shamim and his men locked the restaurant on Thursday night.
"Later, at around 2:30am, the restaurant was demolished with an excavator," he added.
Kamrul Hasan Shamim could not be reached over the phone for a comment on the matter.
Gajaria Police Station Officer-in-Charge Anwar Alam Azad did not receive phone calls from TBS seeking his comments on the issue.
However, Superintendent of Munshiganj Police Shamsul Alam said the police would take action if a complaint is filed.
