Naogaon UNO sued for allegedly securing BCS cadre position using uncle's freedom fighter status
Kamal Hossain is a senior assistant secretary, who passed the 35th BCS examination
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) today (26 December) filed a case against Md Kamal Hossain, upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of Atrai in Naogaon district, for allegedly misusing the freedom fighter quota to secure a BCS cadre position by concealing his biological parents' identities.
The case was filed at ACC's Integrated District Office in Dhaka-1 against the UNO, accusing him of leveraging his paternal uncle's status as a freedom fighter to obtain a BCS cadre position (administration), ACC Director General Akhter Hossain confirmed the matter.
Kamal Hossain is a senior assistant secretary, who passed the 35th BCS examination.
According to the case document, Kamal's real father's name is Md Abul Kashem and his mother's name is Habiba Khatun. His uncle and aunt are Md Ahsan Habib and Sanowara Khatun, respectively. His uncle is a freedom fighter.
From 9th standard, Kamal continued to use his uncle and aunt's names as his parents in subsequent exams like SSC, HSC, and higher degrees.
The first information report (FIR) alleged that through deception, Kamal Hossain used his paternal uncle and aunt's names instead of his biological parents on his birth certificate and national ID card.
"With the intention of availing benefits such as university admission and employment under the freedom fighter quota, he fraudulently participated in the 35th BCS examination and secured a position in the administration cadre as the son of a freedom fighter."
The National Security Intelligence and the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs have separately conducted investigations and verified the truth of the matter, it said.
Additionally, the FIR mentioned that a DNA test of Kamal Hossain will be conducted during the investigation.
However, denying the allegations, Kamal Hossain told The Business Standard that a group of people had filed a false complaint against him due to a land dispute in the area.
"I am not aware of any case with the ACC. A complaint was also filed with the Ministry of Public Administration. I have presented the matter to the village member and chairman, as well as the investigation team," he added.
He insisted that Ahsan Habib is his father and Abul Kashem is his paternal uncle.
