Newly elected councilor among 8 sent to jail for harassing cop
The councilor vied the city polls from Awami League
A Dhaka court today sent Dhaka North City Corporation's newly elected Councilor Shakhawat Hossain along with his seven associates to jail for harassing an inspector of police's special branch.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury passed the order rejecting the bail plea filed by the defense.
Shakhawat, who vied the city polls from Awami League, was elected councilor from Dhaka North's ward No. 23.
On Monday, police arrested Shakhawat, also an Awami League general secretary of the ward, from Rampura area in the capital after the inspector filed a case with Khilgaon police station in this connection.
The other arrestees are, Magfur Rahman Emon, 25, Oalid Hossain Ahaad, 22, Junayed Hossain Farhan, 19, Md Mintu Gazi, 25, Moklesur Rahman Monir, 45, Alamgir Hossain Sarder, 37 and Mustafizur Rahman Mantu, 55.
