NID forgery: 2 Election Commission staffer placed on 7-day remand

A Chattogram court on Monday placed two Election Commission staffer on a seven-day remand in a case filed over providing National Identity (NID) cards to Rohingyas.
Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Court Judge Khairul Amin passed the order after Counter Terrorism unit of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) produced them before the court with a 10-day remand prayer in the NID forgery case, said Rajesh Barua, inspector of Counter Terrorism Unit of CMP.
The remanded accused are Sagar Chowdhury and Satyasundar Dey, both are staff of Election Commission's NID wing in Dhaka.

Previously, they were sent to jail on Sunday after they had surrendered before the court.
On September 16, Election Commission official filed a case against five people for their alleged involvement in providing NID cards to Rohingyas. Police arrested Joynal Abedin, office assistant of Double Moorning election office, Bijoy Das, a driver by profession and Sheema Das, an employee of Chattogram Government General Hospital, from the election office.
Pallabi Chakma, election officer of Double Mooring Police Station, filed the case under Digital Security Act with Kotwali Police Station accusing five people, including Sagar and Satyasundar.
