Kalabagan police arrests thieves after reviewing 500 CCTV footage
On 20 August, the thieves stole 72 bhoris of gold ornaments and Tk1 lakh in cash from a Lake Circus Dolphin Goli house
Kalabagan Police Station has arrested four persons of a gang in connection with a theft in Lake Circus Dolphin Goli of Kalabagan last August by reviewing over 500 CCTV footage from several areas in the capital.
The police arrested them on Monday from the capital's Kalabagan and Adabar neighbourhoods. Three foreign pistols, 111 rounds of ammo, three magazines, three bhoris of gold, and Tk85,000 in cash have been recovered from their possession, said Md Shahidullah, deputy police commissioner, Ramna Zone, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), at a DMP Media Centre press conference on Tuesday.
Those arrested are Md Shohel, Md Farhad, Md Ilias Sheikh and Md Anoarul Islam.
On 20 August, the thieves cut the grill of a flat on the second floor of a building in the Lake Circus Dolphin Goli between 1am and 5am and stole 72 bhoris of gold ornaments and Tk1 lakh in cash.
The police did not find any clue or lead from the spot and no CCTV footage from any nearby building so Kalabagan police started to collect footage from other areas in the capital. Based on that footage and intelligence information, Sohail, Farhad and Iliach were arrested from Dolphin Goli. Based on the information provided by them, Md Anwarul Islam, a gold trader involved in buying and selling stolen gold, was arrested from Naboday Housing Bazar under Adabar Police Station, said Md Shahidullah.
The arrested use various strategies to steal and rob. Some of them sell vegetables, fruits, and green coconuts but their main objective is to find empty houses suitable for robbing. When they find a suitable house other gang members later break in to steal valuables, the police officer added.
Md Shahidullah said a case under the Arms Act has been registered against them at Kalabagan police station. There are several cases against them in different police stations.
