Police sue 8,000 college students, including DMRC, over vandalism, stealing ammo
The police have filed a case against 8,000 students of various colleges including Dr Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College (DMRC) in the capital on charges of vandalism and theft of magazines filled with bullets.
Dhaka's Sutrapur Police Station Sub-Inspector AKM Hasan Mahmudul Kabir filed the case as the plaintiff yesterday.
Anupam Das, sub-inspector of the general registration branch of the police station, confirmed the matter today.
The case report has been submitted to the court today, Monday.
Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ziadur Rahman's court accepted the case and ordered the submission of a report by 24 December.
According to the case statement, on 24 November, about 7,000–8,000 students from various institutions, including the DMRC, formed an unlawful assembly and engaged in violent activities armed with deadly weapons.
They are accused of damaging government property, including a police armoured personnel carrier (APC) and a police motorcycle, and stealing magazines loaded with bullets from official firearms.
The statement also alleges that the students attacked on-duty police officers, issued threats, and incited terror.
The estimated financial damage caused by the vandalism was reported to be Tk 2,70,000.
Earlier today, so far 25 were injured amid clashes between students of Dr Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College, Kabi Nazrul Government College and Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College.
