Probe committee formed over gold theft from Benapole customs
National Board of Revenue (NBR) has formed a five-member probe committee to investigate the theft of 19kg gold from a vault of Benapole Customs House.
The committee, led by NBR member Khondaker Aminur Rahman, has been asked to submit a report within two weeks.
Additional police superintendent of Jashore Towhidul Islam said, "We could not recover the gold or arrest the gang yet. We interrogated seven staffs of the customs house including an assistant revenue officer."
"Our investigation is underway. We are searching for the reason - why the CCTV cameras were switched off," said Benapole Customs House's Joint Customs Commissioner Md Shahidul Islam, the head of the first probe committee.
Earlier, the customs house formed a five-member probe committee to look into the matter.
Thieves stole gold weighing over 19.38 kilograms from a vault of the Benapole Customs House during the three-day holiday from November 8 to November 10.
