Covid-19 certificate forgery: RAB takes over investigation of case against Shahed
Responding to the RAB’s request, the home ministry on Tuesday approved the transfer of Shahed's case to the elite force
The Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police has handed over Regent Hospital Chairman Md Shahed alias Shahed Karim to the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) that will investigate a case filed against him over the issuing of fake Covid-19 certificates.
Shahed was arrested over his involvement in the Covid-19 test scam and several other fraudulent activities.
Responding to the RAB's request, the home ministry on Tuesday approved the transfer of Shahed's case to the elite force, said Lt Col Ashique Billah, director (law and media) of RAB, on Thursday.

When the DB was investigating the case, Shahed was put on a 10-day remand, of which six days have passed. Shahed will remain in RAB custody for the remaining four days.
The RAB raided the Uttara and Mirpur branches of Regent Hospital on July 6 on various charges including issuing false reports and charging exorbitant fees for Covid-19 tests and treatments.
The RAB found evidence of at least 6,000 fake Covid-19 test certificates during the raid.
The next day, the elite force filed a case against 17 people, including Shahed, with Uttara West police station. Later, ten other people were arrested in connection with the case.
On July 13, the RAB appealed to the home ministry to investigate the case.
Two days later, the RAB arrested Shahed from the border area in Satkhira.
On July 16, a Dhaka court put Shahed on a 10-day remand.
After Shahed's arrest, at least 20 cases have been filed against him with different police stations in Dhaka. Most of these are cases of fraud.
