Ron Haque Sikder previously got bail until 10 March to attend his father’s funeral
A Dhaka court has extended the bail for Sikder Group Managing Director Ron Haque Sikder until 11 April this year in an attempt to murder case.
As his ad interim bail expired, Ron surrendered before the court Wednesday, and his counsels applied for bail extension.
The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury granted him the bail extension.
On 12 February, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ashek Imam granted bail to Ron Haque Sikder until 10 March to attend his father's funeral. Ron was arrested earlier in the morning upon his arrival at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport from Dubai.
Sikder Group Managing Director Ron Haque Sikder and Director Dipu Haque Sikder allegedly abducted two Exim Bank officials and threatened to shoot them dead. A case was filed by the bank with Gulshan police station on 19 May last year in this connection.
Six days later, Ron and Dipu fled to Thailand by an air ambulance amid the coronavirus-led regular flight suspension.
According to the case statement, the bank officials were abducted on 7 May last year as they had turned down a Tk500 crore loan proposal of Sikder Group.
After the Sikder brothers had fled Bangladesh, police seized a vehicle belonging to Ron amid uproar over reports of the brothers' escape from the country.
While staying abroad, the Sikder brothers appealed for bail with the High Court, which was scrapped on 20 July last year. The High Court then said, "Such an appeal is the first in human history. It is certainly astonishing."
