Sarjis sues two Facebook pages under CSA over alleged cyberbullying, disinformation
The pages are - Department of Bakshal: University of Dhaka and Criminals of DU
Anti-Discrimination Student Movement leader Sarjis Alam has sued two Facebook pages and their admins over alleged cyberbullying and spreading disinformation against him.
He filed the case with the Shahbagh Police Station under the Cyber Security Act today (23 January), officer-in-charge of the station Khalid Mansur, who registered the case, told reporters.
He said Sarjis claimed that the Facebook pages "harassed and bullied" him in the last couple of weeks.
"He has provided some photos, links and screenshots. The Cyber Crime Division will look into the matter. We cannot say anything on the matter without analysing the evidence," Mansur added.
In the case statement, Sarjis Alam mentioned that after logging into Facebook on 22 January at 11:20am he saw two different pages — "Department of Bakshal: University of Dhaka" and "Criminals of DU" — posted some fake news about him.
"They also uploaded some fabricated screenshots on a WhatsApp number that I previously used. In some particular posts, they wrote lies about me and maligned my dignity.
"They also mentioned in those posts that I was sacked from the July Shaheed Smrity Foundation which is not correct. I voluntarily left the position instead," the case statement reads.
The complaint further states that extremely defamatory misleading information, edited screenshots and edited photos are being posted against him on these two pages.
He alleged that due to the malicious activities, his personality and character have been irreparably damaged.
Such baseless and ugly propaganda has humiliated him socially, and he is even being subjected to extreme defamation, he further alleged.
