Ex-railway minister Nurul Islam Sujan placed on 3-day remand

Former railway minister Nurul Islam Sujan was placed on a 3-day police remand in connection with killing and concealing the body of Al Amin, a rickshaw puller, who actively took part in the July uprising.
Sujan was produced before the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate of Panchagarh Nahid Akhter Juliet with a five-day remand prayer.
Lawyers of the accused opposed the remand petition and prayed for grating his bail in the case but the prosecution side argued for granting remand and opposed the bail move.
The court after hearing both the sides, granted his three-day police remand rejecting the bail petition.
Nurul Islam Sujan hailed from Mohajonpara village under Boda Upazila of the district also the president of Bangladesh Awami League district unit. He was elected Member of Parliament from Panchagarh-2 constituency and was railway minister from 2018 to 2023.
Public Prosecutor Advocate Adam Sufi told journalists that Monu Miah of North Dorjipara area under Sadar Upazila filed a case accusing 19 people including Nurul Islam Sujan on 10 November last year.
Monu Miah's son Alamin, a rickshaw puller and a frontline activist of July mass uprising.
He was injured critically in an attack by a group of miscreants in front of the house of Sadman Sakib Plabon, general secretary of district Chhatra League on 5 August while returning home by his rickshaw.
The attackers took away Al Amin's blood-stained body, and he has been missing ever since, the PP added.
