Teknaf OC Pradip, 6 others suspended over Major Sinha murder
Police headquarters have suspended seven police personnel including Teknaf Police Station's Officer-in-Charge Pradip Kumar Das and Baharchara Police outpost Inspector Liakat Ali over the killing of the retired Army major Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan in police firing.
"If any government official gets accused in a criminal offence, they automatically get suspended from their duties," Chattogram Range DIG Khandaker Golam Faruq told The Business Standard on Friday night.
The others, who were suspended from the force are - Sub-inspector Nandalal Rakkhit, Constables Safanur Karim, Kamal Hossain, Abdullah Al Mamun and Assistant Sub-Inspectors Liton Mia.
Sources at the Cox's Bazar district police said that the suspension of Pradip Kumar Das and Liakat Ali had to come from the Police Headquarters since they are OC and SI ranked.
The other five were suspended after the Senior Judicial Court rejected the bail plea ordered to send them to jail.
Earlier on July 31 night, Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan was killed in police firing in Cox's Bazar Marine Drive. The government formed a probe committee to investigate the death of the former army major the next day.
On Wednesday, Sinha's sister Sharmin Shahria Ferdous filed a case at the Judicial Magistrate court against nine policemen.
On Thursday, Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Helal Uddin of Cox's Bazar Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court sent Pradip Kumar Das, Liakat Ali and five other accused to jail.
The same court in the evening placed Pradip Kumar Das, Liakat Ali and sub-inspector Nanda Dulal Rakkhit under a seven-day remand after the investigation agency, RAB-15, sought for a 10-day remand of the accused.
