Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested two drug peddlers along with 30,100 pieces of contraband yaba pills from Patiya upazila on Tuesday morning.
The arrestees were identified as Md Nurul Alam, 26, and Md Kaisar Uddin, 20, residents of Ukhiya upazila in Cox's Bazar.
Assistant Director (Media) of Rab-7 Nurul Abchar said a team of the elite force took position on Patiya Bypass Road early Tuesday on information that a huge consignment of yaba pills would be smuggled to Chattogram from Cox's Bazar.
They were searching the vehicles which were running on the route setting up a check post there. At one stage the pickup van carrying the drug reached the place and the driver and his associate tried to flee sensing police presence.
However, the Rab officials caught them red-handed with the yaba pills worth about Tk90.30 lakh. The pills were hidden in a spare wheel of the van.
A case was filed with Patiya Police Station against the duo in this connection, the official added.
