Watch: ‘MP Papul’ in Kuwait prison cell
After one day of arrest, Bangladeshi MP Md Shahid Islam, widely known as Kazi Papul, was sent to a Kuwait jail over human trafficking and money laundering charges.
The Business Standard has obtained an exclusive footage from the prison, where the lawmaker is currently being held. The video showed the prisoner, purported to be MP Kazi Papul, having a conversation with a prison guard.
In the conversation with Mushrif Prison security guard, the person appeared from his cell and answered questions why and how he landed in jail. The guards were heard saying words like Bangalee and MP.
However, we could not independently verify the video.
Earlier, five Bangladeshi expatriates testified against Shahid Islam before a Kuwait court on Sunday.
In their deposition, they confirmed paying up to 3000 dinars to Shahid Islam.
"The prosecution heard testimonies of the expatriates, who also paid annually in exchange of renewing their residency," reports Arab Times.
On June 7, The Criminal Investigation Department in Kuwait arrested Bangladesh lawmaker Mohammad Shahid Islam on the charges of human trafficking and money laundering.
The judge of Mushrif magistrate court denied MP Papul's bail plea and sent him to jail on Sunday.
The hearing date will be announced soon, confirmed the Bangladesh Ambassador S M Abul Kalam.
