A notice issued requiring importers to collect goods within 30 days
The Chattogram Custom House (CCH) has started destroying goods from 21 containers that had been left unclaimed for an extended period at Chattogram Port.
The initiative began today with the disposal of four containers of spoiled goods at the Chattogram City Corporation's dumping station in Anandabazar, near the city's coastline.
According to customs officials, approximately 81,150 kilograms of ginger from three 40-foot containers and 27,440 kilograms of oranges from one 40-foot container were destroyed.

Chattogram Custom House Spokesperson and Deputy Commissioner Saidul Islam told The Business Standard (TBS) that the destruction process, which began on Monday, will continue in the coming days.
"Products like dragon fruit, mandarins, and others are scheduled for destruction on Tuesday," he added.
Explaining the reasons for the destruction, Saidul Islam said, "The importers failed to take delivery of the goods, which were subsequently put up for auction. However, due to insufficient bids, the decision was made to destroy the items."
He also mentioned that many products were not cleared by the Plant Quarantine Station, despite being approved for auction.
As per customs regulations, a notice was issued requiring importers to collect their goods within 30 days. If unclaimed, the goods are put up for auction after an additional 15 days. If no suitable bids are received, the authorities may opt to destroy the goods, as seen in this case.
