A university in Chattogram has suspended a student for allegedly being involved in the murder of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif.
The youth in question is a student of the Law Department of the BGC Trust University Bangladesh, according to a notice, signed by the institution's registrar SM Shoeb, issued today (27 November).
The decision to suspend the student was taken at a meeting of the department, reads the notice.
According to university sources, the decision was taken as a picture of the said student and others with arms in their hand went viral on Facebook. In a video circulating on the social media platform, those youths were allegedly seen taking part in the killing of lawyer Alif in Chattogram yesterday.
Lawyer Alif was brutally hacked to death during a protest over the jailing of former ISKCON leader Chinmoy Krishna Das.
The Chattagram Metropolitan Police have detained 33 people over the incident.
The police have found preliminary evidence of the involvement of seven of the detained, CMP Commissioner Hasib Aziz said today.
