CZM awards Tk21.6cr in scholarships to 1,800 underprivileged public university students
Each student will receive Tk4,000 per month for the next 2.5 years
The Center for Zakat Management (CZM) has granted scholarships totalling Tk21.6 crore to 1,800 underprivileged first-year undergraduate students across public universities, government medical colleges, and nursing institutes.
Each student will receive Tk4,000 per month for the next 2.5 years, reads a press release.
The scholarship ceremony was held today (5 October) at the Muktijoddha Smriti Auditorium of the Institute of Diploma Engineers in Dhaka.

The chief guest Planning and Education Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud handed over the award certificates to the scholarship recipients.
The adviser said, "Everyone in society has the right to equal access to education. Along with government initiatives, CZM is utilising Zakat funds to provide educational opportunities to underprivileged students. Zakat can play an effective role in reducing economic inequality."
Dr Sheikh Abdur Rashid, senior secretary of the Ministry of Education, Professor Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan, vice-chancellor of Dhaka University, Professor Dr Mamun Ahmed, pro-vice-chancellor of Dhaka University, and Dr Mohammad Ayub Miah, executive director of CZM and former secretary and also the member of the newly formed Public Administration Reform Commission.
At the event, 420 students from Dhaka University, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Jahangirnagar University, Jagannath University, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka Medical College, and Sir Salimullah Medical College were awarded scholarships.
