Deputy Speaker urges ministries to spend more on children’s development
Deputy Speaker Fazle Rabbi Miah has urged all ministries to utilise the surplus funds, if they have any, for the development of children as this group needs special care in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
He came up with this call while addressing a special meeting of the Parliamentary Caucus on Child Rights, said a media statement issued on Sunday.
Fazle Rabbi Miah, also an adviser to the Parliamentary Caucus, attended the event as chief guest, while lawmaker and President of the Parliamentary Caucus on Child Rights Shamsul Haque Tuku was in the chair.
A total of 10 members of the parliamentary caucus attended the event held at a hotel in the capital.
World Vision Bangladesh, a global development and advocacy organisation for children, and the Parliamentary Caucus on Child Rights jointly organised the programme.
Addressing the event, Fazle Rabbi Miah said if the ministries spend big for the betterment of children, this generation, who will lead the future nation, could get better health and educational facilities in the time of this pandemic.
He also asked the finance ministry to ensure accountability of ministries regarding how much money they are spending for the development of children.
Shamsul Haque Tuku said both the government and the development agencies will have to work jointly to uphold children's rights and security.
