Dhaka summons Myanmar ambassador over aerial firing
This is the third time in the last 15 days that Dhaka summoned the Myanmar ambassador over their army’s mortar shells landing on Bangladesh soil
Bangladesh on Sunday reiterated deep concern over mortar shells landing inside Bangladesh territory and indiscriminate aerial firing from Myanmar in the bordering areas, and air space violations from Myanmar and summoned the Myanmar ambassador to lodge a strong protest.
According to the latest report, on 3 September 2022 two mortar shells fell inside Bangladesh between border post 40 and 41 at Ghumdhum union of Naikhongchhari upazila in the morning, according to a press release of the foreign ministry.
The Myanmar Ambassador in Bangladesh U Aung Kyaw Moe was asked to visit the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday to meet the Director General of Myanmar Wing Mia Mainul Kabir.
During the meeting, the Ambassador was also told that such activities are of grave threat to the safety and security of the peace-loving people of Bangladesh, violation of border agreement between Bangladesh and Myanmar and contrary to the good neighbourly relationship.
The Ambassador was also urged to ensure that no trespassing of the internally displaced Myanmar Residents takes place from Rakhine, read the release.
It was also stressed that a safe, secure and conducive environment in the place of their origin in Rakhine is essential for sustainable and voluntary repatriation of the displaced Rohingyas from Bangladesh.
A diplomatic note was handed over to him on Sunday in this regard.
Meanwhile Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen on Sunday said, "When we summoned the ambassador, they said, it was not provocation. This was accidental."

The Myanmar Ambassador was asked to come to the Ministry on 21 August and 28 August 2022 and protest notes were handed over to him conveying Bangladesh's grave concerns.
The Bangladesh Embassy in Yangon also raised the issue with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar with much importance.
