Dhaka-Cox's Bazar: Another special train for 5 days from 23 Oct
This special train will have 634 seats on 18 coaches
In a bid to tackle the pressure of a high number of passengers, Bangladesh Railway has decided to operate another special train for five days on the Dhaka-Chattogram-Cox's Bazar route from 23 October.
This train will operate until 27 October alongside the existing special trains, Station Master Mohammad Golam Rabbani of the Cox's Bazar Railway Station told The Business Standard today (18 October).
He said the first train will depart from Dhaka's Kamalapur Railway Station at 11pm on 23 October and is scheduled to arrive in Cox's Bazar at 7:30am the following day.
On 24 October, the train will depart from Cox's Bazar at 1:40pm and arrive in Dhaka at 10pm. It will follow the same schedule on 25 and 26 October as well, he added.
Rabbani said that this special train will have 634 seats on 18 coaches. "The authorities have decided to introduce this train service considering the demand of both general passengers and tourists."
Earlier, a special train had operated on the Dhaka-Chattogram-Cox's Bazar route for four days from 10 to 13 October during the Durga Puja holidays.
Train service on this route officially began with the introduction of the "Cox's Bazar Express" on 1 December last year, followed by the "Parjatak Express" on 14 January this year.
Another special service for the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar route was launched on 8 April this year but it was discontinued after two months. Following criticism, railway authorities decided to restart the service on 12 June. However, it ran until 11 July.
