Dhaka North administrator vows strict action against corruption in birth registration
Everyone involved must act responsibly to make the process smooth and efficient, he says
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Md Mahmudul Hasan has warned of strict measures against dishonest groups involved in irregularities in the birth registration process.
Speaking at the second meeting of a committee formed by the Local Government Division to oversee the city corporation's activities, Mahmudul Hasan emphasised the importance of ensuring a seamless birth registration process.
"Everyone involved must act responsibly to make the process smooth and efficient. Strict action will be taken against corrupt individuals engaged in irregularities concerning birth registration or the issuance of other certificates. DNCC magistrates will conduct mobile courts to address these issues," he said.
Addressing public health concerns, he said, "Despite being in November, dengue cases are still affecting many. Regular mosquito control activities must continue, and supervision needs to be intensified."
Citizens must also be made aware of the importance of keeping their homes and surroundings clean, he added.
To ensure efficient management, the Local Government Division of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives has formed a 25-member committee.
The committee, headed by the DNCC administrator with the chief executive officer serving as member-secretary, includes officers from various organisations and departments.
The committee, established under the Local Government (city corporation amendment) Ordinance 2024, will assist the administrator in executing his duties. Members will also take on responsibilities previously managed by councillors, as per Section 25A of the ordinance.
