Dhaka North mayor urges residents to sacrifice animals at designated spots

Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam on Saturday called upon city dwellers to slaughter sacrificial animals for the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha at the 256 spots designated by the city corporation.
He said this at an online meeting of Dhaka North officials and employees held to ensure proper management of sacrificial animal waste.
A monitoring team comprising 10 ward councillors has already been formed to enforce health regulations in cattle markets, Atiqul said while directing officials to properly perform their duties regarding the management of animal markets and disposal of waste on the occasion of Eid.

About 10,000 tonnes of waste will be generated on the day of Eid. Like every year, all the waste will be removed within 24 hours, reads a press release issued by the city corporation.
Dhaka North has trained 250 imams and 250 butchers to perform the sacrifices following religious regulations.
Additional manpower and transport have been kept ready to ensure proper removal of animal waste.
A total of 11,508 cleaners, including Dhaka North's own workers, outsourced workers and primary waste collection service providers in the field level will be ready along with other staff and employees of the city corporation. All holidays of city employees and workers have been cancelled for this purpose.
To remove the waste, 430 heavy and light vehicles have been prepared. In particular, 11 water carts will spray water mixed with disinfectant and bleaching powder to decontaminate the places of sacrifice.
In order to protect the environment and keep it free from pollution, 51 tonnes of bleaching powder and 960 cans of 5-litre liquid disinfectant will be sprayed on Eid day.
In addition, Dhaka North has started distributing about 6 lakh special bags to promote environmentally friendly waste storage.
Among others, Dhaka North Chief Executive Officer Md Abdul Hai, Secretary Rabindra Shri Barua, Chief Waste Management Officer Commodore M Saidur Rahman, Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Mominur Rahman Mamun, Chief Engineer Amirul Islam, Chief Property Officer Md Mozammel Haque, General Manager (Transport) Abdul Latif Khan, and regional executive officers were present at the meeting.
