Dhaka Union of Journalists protest against threat to Boishakhi TV's CNE
The DUJ leaders called on law enforcement agencies to take immediate legal action in this matter
Saiful Islam, chief news editor of Boishakhi Television, and Kazi Farid, a correspondent, both members of Dhaka Union of Journalists, have been given death threats. Perpetrators sent them burial shrouds in an envelope as payback for publishing reports on irregularities and corruption in the National University. President of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) Quddus Afrad and General Secretary Sajjad Alam Khan Topu have condemned the incident.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the leaders said, "Death threats create a psychological pressure on journalists and impede independent news coverage, which is unacceptable in a democratic society."
The DUJ leaders called on law enforcement agencies to take immediate legal action in this matter.
On Monday, two letters in an envelope with the National University logo were sent via courier to the Boishakhi Television offices.
