Salaries of postal employees in Bangladesh are too low
The Bangladesh Postal Employees' Union held a human chain, putting forth a list of ten demands, including a triple increment in the salaries of extra-departmental (ED) employees under the Digital Daakghar of the Bangladesh Postal Department.
Postal workers from across the country participated in the human chain in front of the National Press Club on Sunday.
General Secretary of the Union, M A Hakim hosted the event, which was presided over by Union President, Md Shahnewaj Chowdhury.
Shahnewaj Chowdhury said, "The salaries of the postal employees are too low in Bangladesh. The families of 23,000 employees in 8,000 post offices across the country will not be able to survive on a Tk6,000 salary."
Following the human chain, the union members submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister.
Their demands include - triple the salary of ED employees; pay allowance for Bengali New Year; provide government grants to ED Employees Welfare Fund; circulate new appointments to fill vacancies; provide uniforms to employees, among others.
