Disclose asset, income info, TIB urges newly-appointed ACC chairman, commissioners
The organisation also encouraged ACC leaders to clarify their positions on corruption allegations and disclose any political affiliations
The Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) urged the newly-appointed chairman and commissioners of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to disclose income and asset statements to ensure accountability and transparency.
In a press release issued today (11 December), the organisation also encouraged these leaders to clarify their positions on corruption allegations and disclose any political affiliations.
The TIB further emphasised the significance of executing their obligations with honesty and integrity, in line with the anti-discrimination movement's core values and the massive sacrifices that created a "New Bangladesh."
Commenting on the roles and responsibilities of the new ACC leadership, TIB Executive Director Iftekharuzzaman stated, "At this pivotal moment of the nation, we encourage the top leadership of the ACC to take the initiative in disclosing the following to promote transparency and accountability within this major institution that embodies the public's expectations".
The TIB also asked for an independent auditor to verify the wealth data released, aside from responding to any claims arising from abuse of authority or irregularities and a formal declaration of readiness to voluntarily resign and undergo due legal investigation in the event of any inconsistencies in the above matters.
Speaking to journalists earlier today, newly-appointed ACC Chairman Mohammad Abdul Momen said the commission would not be influenced by any political ideology or bias.
He also called for everyone's cooperation in combating corruption.
