Distribution companies’ negligence responsible for Patharghata explosion: Nasrul Hamid
Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company, which is responsible for distributing gas in the Patharghata region, denied the minister’s claim
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said the gas distribution companies are responsible for the explosion in Chattogram's Patharghata on Sunday morning.
Seven people, including two women and a child, were killed and at least 21 injured after a wall of a building collapsed, which seemed to be caused by a gas pipeline explosion.
Nasrul Hamid commented on the issue after the inauguration of 132/33/11KV Grid Substations at Aftabnagar and Purbachal (Sector-2) areas.
"The distribution companies' negligence of duty is responsible for these types of accident. We are planning to take legal action against them," said the minister, adding, "We directed all the distribution companies to renovate and maintain their old pipelines on a timely basis. But they don't follow our direction."
However, Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company, which is responsible for distributing gas in the Patharghata region, denied the minister's claim.
Engineer Khaiz Ahmed Mozumder, managing director of the company said that their distribution line is not responsible for the accident.
"All the cooking stoves and the kitchen were seen intact after the explosion, then how can you say it was a gas pipeline explosion?" said Khaiz Ahmed.
He said that a team from the company is working to find out the cause of the accident.
