Cyclone Hamoon: 15,000 houses damaged in Cox's Bazar municipality
At least 15,000 houses have been damaged in Cox's Bazar municipality due to Cyclone Hamoon. Among the damaged houses, 5,500 houses have been completely destroyed while others are partially damaged, Cox's Bazar Municipality Mayor Mahabubur Rahman Chowdhury said today.
"The Samiti Para, Kutubdia Para, Mostakpara, Fadnar Dale, and Nazirertek areas have sustained the most damage," he said on Wednesday (25 October).
Besides, many houses in Nunyarchhara, Kalatali, and Peshkar Para areas have also been damaged, he added.
The mayor also said councillors have made a list of the affected people; 150 affected families were given tin sheets and Tk1,000 in cash as aid. The aid were distributed at Shaheed Daulat field of Cox's Bazar Public Library on Wednesday afternoon.
"150 families were given aid to rebuild their houses quickly. Others will be provided with assistance gradually," Mayor Mahabubur Rahman Chowdhury said.
Cox's Bazar District Commissioner Muhammad Shaheen Imran, Additional District Commissioner (General) Bibhishan Kanti Dash, Sadar Upazila Officer Mohammad Zakaria, Cox's Bazar Press Club President Abu Taher, General Secretary Md Mujibul Islam among others were present during the distribution of the aid.
