Diversified jute goods at fair amuse buyers

Visitors expressed their satisfaction with various jute products, displayed at the five-day long Diversified Jute Products Fair, held at Karim Chamber, Motejheel, in the capital.
Shafi Mobarak, a housewife, stared at the astonishing sarees made of jute. She attended the fair at the last day (Sunday), and became surprised after seeing such beautiful and diversified jute products. She seems happy to see such unique products made of jute.
“I never thought such beautiful and high-quality sarees and skirts could be made of jute,” Shafi Mobarak told the reporter, while visiting the fair.

A bank employee Tania Haque, who is younger than Mobarak, came to the fair with three of her colleagues. She couldn't believe her eyes when she saw the bag named 'SONALI BAG', made of jute; because of its similarity with polythene bags.
“I am feeling really excited to see such an amazing assortment of environment-friendly and diversified jute products,” she said.
“You can find such beautiful collections nowhere else, but at the fair; and it is an opportunity to have some products of our own,” her colleagues added.
Not only Tania and her colleagues, but also everyone who visited the exhibition became mesmerized after seeing various jute goods in the form of clothing, ornament and home decoration.
The Jute Diversification Promotion Centre (JDPC) is an autonomous government body responsible for the promotion and diversification of jute use in Bangladesh. JDPC helped around 702 entrepreneurs to be successful, and they have so far invented 280 types of diversified jute goods.
Bags for ladies, students, and for carrying laptop; purses; bed sheet; sofa cover; bin; curtain; floor mat; shoes; sarees; ornaments; ornament boxes; and home decor items made of jute are the bestselling jute goods in the fair.
Chandona Ahmed, an entrepreneur and director of Raidah Handicrafts from Rangpur, has come up with her stall containing 30 types of jute products, of which household decorative goods attracted the visitors most, she said.
She has lots of challenges to reach the target and make connection with buyers. She dreams one day her products will be exhibited beyond the border.
Among the 702 entrepreneurs, there are almost thirty entrepreneurs like Chandona who have got chance to join the exhibition with their stalls. At the final day of the fair, most of the entrepreneurs showed their satisfactory smiles as they got the expected visitors.
“There is a huge potential in the local market and usage of jute products locally is necessary for the development of jute sector,” said the Industry Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun as the chief guest in the inauguration program of the fair.
“Nowadays, jute farmers are getting a decent price on jute products and there is a good future of jute,” said Textile and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi as special guest.
