Top police officers of Mirpur division transferred
The transfer came just 10 days after a blast inside Pallabi police station
Top officials of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP)'s Mirpur division have been transferred just 10 days after a bomb exploded inside Pallabi police station building that injured five cops.
DMP Commissioner Shafiqul Islam on Saturday transferred five officers, including Mirpur Division Deputy Commissioner Mostak Ahmed and Pallabi Police Station Officer-in-charge Nazrul Islam, to others posts.
There were allegations of mishandling the explosives that led to the blast in Pallabi police station on the morning of July 29.
The bombs were confiscated from three goons from Mirpur's Kalshi area police claimed to have arrested. The family members of three arrested, however, alleged that they were picked up a few days earlier.
DMP formed a probe committee over the blast incident and the transfer orders were issued amid the investigation.
When asked if the transfer has any connection with the probe committee's investigation, Walid Hossain, deputy commissioner (media and public relations) of DMP said that this is a routine transfer.
"The investigation on the blast is still underway. After end of the investigation, it can be determined who to be blamed for the blast and what role which officer played," he added.
In the transfer order, Mirpur Division DC Mostak has been transferred to DMP's Protective Division as DC, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Mizanur Rahman transferred to Operations at DMP headquarters as ADC, Assistant Commissioner (AC) of Pallabi zone Firoz Kawsar has been transferred to DMP's Welfare and Force division as AC.
Meanwhile, Pallabi police station OC Nazrul Islam has been transferred to DMP's Prosecution division.
On July 29, a bomb exploded inside Pallabi police station around 7am. Four policemen and a civilian were injured in the incident. Two more bombs were neutralised by bomb disposal unit of Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit.
