DoE fines oil tanker for polluting Karnaphuli
A team of environment department made a physical visit to the accident spot
The Department of Environment (DoE) today fined oil tanker Desh-1 Tk3 crore for polluting the river of Karnaphuli by spilling diesel in the water after an accident.
The oil tanker hit a lighter vessel, anchored at Padma jetty of the port leading the tanker to leakage on Friday.
Chattogram Director of Department of Environment, Azadur Rahman Mallick handed down the penalty after a hearing, said Sangjukta Das Gupta, assistant director, DoE, Chattogram.
Earlier, a team of environment department made a physical visit to the accident spot.
At least 10 tonne of diesel spilled into the Karnaphuli River after the accident.
