‘Don’t charge more than Tk100 for waste collection from any household’
Mayor Taposh also instructed the PCSPs to invest and recruit manpower at an increased rate
Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh has instructed the Primary Waste Collection Service Provider (PCSPs) not to charge more than Tk100 per month from any household for waste collection.
The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayor gave the instructions while participating in the "Open Discussion on PCSPs Work" at the Mayor Hanif Auditorium of Nagar Bhaban on Monday.
Mayor Taposh said, "We have set monthly charge for waste management at a fixed rate. It should not be deviated anywhere. No PCSP can charge more than Tk100 from any house."
Stating that a large section of Dhaka residents is still accustomed to dumping waste in open spaces, the DSCC mayor said, "Dhaka is a capital. As a capital city, its dignity and respect must be realised. So, these rules (new form of waste management) have to be followed properly. We have set up a new waste management schedule in a very planned manner."
He continued, "In the beginning, many may not want to follow this schedule properly. But you have to follow our schedule properly and have to motivate the people to follow that schedule."
Taposh also instructed the PCSPs to invest and recruit manpower at an increased rate.
"Waste is still being collected and cleaned during the daytime in some places. It points that you have not yet properly invested in it. So, you should hire more manpower and invest more to do this job smoothly. Then, you will also benefit more from waste management," said the DSCC mayor.
The mayor also said that in 2022, no one will be able to term Dhaka as a city of waste.
The PCSP delegates, present at the event, expressed their views on the various challenges they are facing on the new management of waste collection activities.
