DSCC announces Tk6119cr annual budget for 2020-21FY
The city corporation will collect money from its own funding, government sources are foreign aid
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has announced its annual budget for the 2020-21 fiscal year.
Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, mayor of the DSCC announced the budget worth around Tk6,119.59 core at an event at the Nagar Bhaban on Thursday.
The city corporation prioritises money collection for the budget from its own funding, government sources and foreign aid, the mayor read out from a statement.
The mayor said, "A clean Dhaka will help to control mosquitoes and protect city residents from various diseases. We are emphasising health safety and infrastructural development to spend the budget."
The mayor also focused on a sustainable healthcare system and overall cleanliness of the city. So the DSCC will operate strict initiatives to control dust in all of its areas, the mayor said.
DSCC has planned to set up community clinics in every ward to ensure primary healthcare for all, including people from the low-income group, added the mayor.
Regarding the sourcing of the fund, the mayor said, DSCC also has targeted to earn Tk1009.02 crore from its own sources. Of these, Tk350 crore is from holding tax, Tk165 crore from market salami and Tk50 crore will be from market rent.
Besides, Tk100 crore will be earned from trade license fee, Tk50 crore from advertisement tax, Tk10 crore from bus-truck terminals, Tk12 crore from temporary animal market lease, Tk45 crore from lease (toilet, parking, raw market etc.), Tk40 crore from road excavation fee, Tk24 crore from rickshaw license fee, Tk12 crore from utility services, Tk12 crore from toll tax, and Tk10 crore from equipment rent, Taposh said.
"We will get Tk10 crore from registration fee of private hospitals (clinics, diagnostic centres and paramedical institutes), Tk5 crore from registration fee (schools, coaching centres), Tk3 crore from rent of community centers, Tk60 crore from property transfer tax, Tk60 crore for compensation, and Tk5 crore from construction and reconstruction of building taxes," added the mayor at the budget announcement event.
He went on, "Some other earning sources include petrol pumps and rent from land, theatres. Moreover, I expect to get Tk50 crore from a government grant, Tk100 crore from a government special grant and Tk4766.57 crore from government and foreign aid."
"The expenditures for salary and allowance of the DSCC officials is Tk264 crore. And the other significant expenditures are Tk1741.75 crore for maintenance and development of road and traffic infrastructure, Tk848 crore on development of civic recreational facilities (construction and development), Tk917.57 crore on development and maintenance of physical infrastructures," said the mayor about the expenditure.
The other expenses are Tk300 crore on integrated mosquito control work, Tk300 crore on waterlogging removal, Tk150 crore on Buriganga channel reform and land clearance, Tk250 crore on road and aesthetic park construction on the banks of the Buriganga River, and Tk300 crore on children's park maintenance and development, said Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh.
Furthermore, Tk202 crore will be spent for development and beautification of office and other facilities, Tk281 to develop playgrounds, Tk260.08 crore for construction of community centers, Tk300 crore for establishment of new markets, Tk40.5 crore for construction of hospitals and Tk51.3 crore for construction of ward offices for the waste management department, he added.
Some other estimated expenditures were Tk264 crore for salary and allowance, Tk50 crore for utility bill (electricity, fuel, water and gas), Tk24 crore for repair and maintenance, Tk35 crore for mosquito control activities, Tk21.5 crore for supply of goods, Tk20.05 crore in welfare expenditure, Tk3.5 crore in advertisement and publicity, and Tk8 crore in special arrangements for waste management, said DSCC Mayor Taposh.
