At least 10 illegal establishments have been evicted from the both sides of Kalunagar Canal in the south city.
A mobile court, led by executive magistrate Irfan Uddin Ahmed of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) conducted the drive as its part of regular eviction drives.
DSCC Executive Magistrate Irfan Uddin Ahmed said that the engineers of DSCC zone-3 identified the illegal shops on both sides of the canal and later the establishments were removed.
The executive magistrate said that they were informed that Kalunagar Boro Masjid's authority built the establishments on the canal banks. He also suggested the authority to maintain five feet distance from the canal railing to build any establishment.
DSCC Chief Estate Officer Rasel Sabrin said they removed the illegal establishments from there in order to create water flow in the canal and to deal with wastes dumping in it as per the direction of DSCC Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh.
