DU to build new dorm for female students
Currently, the university has five halls and two hostels for female students
The Dhaka University administration has taken the initiative to build a new dormitory for female students in an attempt to address the accommodation crisis.
The initiative is set to be funded by the Chinese government at an estimated cost of Tk244 crore under the project titled 'Bangladesh-China Friendship Hall Construction Project' which is currently awaiting approval from the ministry concerned, said a DU press release today (5 January).
Currently, the university has five halls and two hostels for female students.
The university administration has been actively working to alleviate the housing challenges faced by female students. Recent efforts include the installation of bunk beds in existing dormitories, which has already provided additional accommodation for a number of students.
Moreover, under the World Bank's Education Improvement Project, a housing scholarship program for both male and female students is in the pipeline, said the release.
It is anticipated that students enrolling in the upcoming academic year for undergraduate programs will be benefitted from this initiative, it added.
