EC search committee's meeting with president did not take place
The scheduled meeting between the search committee, responsible to constitute a new Election Commission, and President Mohammad Shahabuddin, was not held today (20 November).
The meeting was slated for 6:30pm at Bangabhaban, said Joynal Abedin, press secretary to the president.
"The scheduled meeting did not take place as the search committee did not arrive at Bangabhaban," Abedin said.
He further added, "A new schedule will be arranged once the search committee requests another appointment with the president."
The search committee headed by Justice Zubair Rahman Chowdhury was formed on 29 October to recommend the names of qualified individuals for the positions of chief election commissioner and other election commissioners.
Other members of the committee are the judge of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court, Justice AKM Asaduzzaman, former professor of Dhaka University's International Relations Department Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, former chairman of Bangladesh Bangladesh Public Service Commission Dr Zinnatun Nesa Tahmida Begum.
Apart from this, the committee also includes Controller General of Accounts for the post of Comptroller and Auditor General Md Nurul Islam and the chairman of Bangladesh Public Service Commission Prof Mobasser Monem as members.
