Ecnec approves 13 projects
The approval came at the weekly Ecnec meeting
The Executive Committee of National Economic Council (Ecnec) approved 13 development projects valued at Tk 7,744 crore.
Of the total projected cost, Tk 6,415 crore will come from the national exchequer, while Tk 189 crore from the funds of the organisations involved in the implementation of the projects; and the remaining Tk 1,140 crore will come from donor agencies and countries.
The approval came at the weekly Ecnec meeting, held at the NEC Conference Room in the capital with the Prime Minister and Ecnec chairperson in the chair.
“Of the approved projects, 10 are new while 3 are revised,” Planning Minister MA Mannan told the press after the meeting.
“Cost of the ongoing ‘postal department renovation project’ has gone up to Tk 225 crore from Tk 48 crore,” said the minister.
Project for improving power distribution network of Sylhet division sees increase in preliminary cost estimates– as the total cost for the project has increased to Tk 2,053 crore from the primary estimation of Tk 1,891 crore.
Another project for the protection of Bhola’s Tamijuddin upazilla from erosion of Meghna River also becomes costlier as the cost goes up to Tk 609 crore from Tk 449 crore.
Apart from Bagura-Natore Highway Development and Widening project, dedicated lanes and bus-bay construction on Aminbazar-Paturia Ghat, portion of Dhaka-Uthuli-Paturia highway project, and development of Laksham Baiyara bazar- Omarganj- Nangalkot zila road project have got Ecnec’s nod.
Other approved projects are – replacement of street lamps with modern ones in Chattogram; development project of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology; modernization of Department of Inspection for Factories, Establishments, and BADC fertilizer storage.
