10 DU journalism students get ‘Sitara Parveen Award’ for outstanding results
Ten meritorious students of Mass Communication and Journalism of Dhaka University have received "Professor Sitara Parveen Award" for their outstanding academic results in the BSS (Hons) final examination held in 2022.
Vice-Chancellor of the university Prof Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan, today distributed the scholarships among the awardees during a ceremony held at the Professor Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury Auditorium.
The award recipients are Farah Zaman Suchi, Usama Rafid, Tahsin Nawar, Md Rafiz Khan, Hossain Ajmal, Mehedi Hasan, Md Tanzir Hossain, Nigar Sultana, Mehnaz Lamisa Rahman and Nahida Sultana Saima.
Prof Rasheda Irshad Nasir, dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and acting chairperson of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, presided over the function while Matiur Rahman, editor of the daily Prothom Alo, attended as the special guest.
Dr Ahaduzzaman Mohammad Ali, a retired professor of the department, delivered a vote of thanks, while Associate Professor Dr Saiful Haque hosted the event.
While addressing the programme, DU VC paid glowing tribute to the memory of Prof Dr Sitara Parveen and said she was an honest, idealistic, and dedicated teacher and researcher of the university.
He urged the students to recognise the significant responsibility they hold towards the country and the nation.
Professor Niaz Ahmed called on the students to strive towards building a new Bangladesh by developing themselves into responsible and worthy citizens.
Prof Sitara Parveen was a daughter of former President Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed and the wife of Prof Dr Ahaduzzaman Mohammad Ali. She died in a tragic road accident in the USA on 23 June in 2005.
