Brac University joins global network to transform higher education
Brac University is partnering with a new university network aiming to better prepare students for current and future global challenges.
This is in tune with its revamped aspirations to turn into an international university. The curricula are being overhauled to benchmark against Harvard's and Yale's. New research partnerships, international internships and student exchanges are being adopted.
The vision is to stand out as a true global institution and flagship university bringing pride for Bangladesh. The mission is to foster knowledge creation, uphold human values and promote sustainable development.

The Open Society University Network will integrate teaching and research across higher education institutions worldwide. It will offer simultaneously taught network courses and joint degree programs. Students and faculty will regularly be brought together with in-person and online discussions. A "scholars at risk" program will be launched. It will merge a large number of academically excellent but politically endangered scholars.
The network aims to reach students who need it the most. It will promote values of open society, including free expression and diversity of beliefs, and rigorous education. The network will also reach the institutions in need of international partners, as well as neglected populations, such as refugees, incarcerated people, the Roma and other displaced groups.
The network's core will be formed by Central European University and Bard College. Its other partners include Arizona State University, a world leader in distance learning, and the American University of Central Asia in Kyrgyzstan.
The network is being created by philanthropist George Soros.
Soros announced creating the network in Davos, Switzerland on January 23. He is endowing the network with $1 billion and asking other philanthropists to contribute.
