Buet wants to lead uniform admission test
The University Grants Commission held a meeting to finalise the admission committee for the engineering universities, but it ended without reaching a decision.
Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) has expressed its interest to lead the combined admission test and hold the examination at its own campus in the capital every year.
But the other three universities - Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (Ruet), Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (Cuet) and Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (Kuet) - want to elect chairman of the admission test committee alphabetically from all varsities.
The University Grants Commission held a meeting to finalise the admission committee for the engineering universities, but it ended without reaching a decision.
Professor Dr Abdul Jabbar Khan, pro-vice-chancellor of Buet, said, the university has decided to go to the combined admission test with other engineering universities.
"We want to hold the admission test smoothly every year. That is why we propose the meeting to make Buet as head of admission test committee."
"We will discuss about the opinion of other universities in our academic council. Then we will take a decision next week," he said.
Professor Md Alamgir, member of UGC, presided over the virtual meeting while Professor Rafikul Islam Sheikhm, VC of Ruet; Professor Mohammad Rafikul Alam, VC of Cuet; and Professor Dr Kazi Sazzad, VC of Kuet were present at the meeting.
The administration of the engineering universities agreed to hold the combined admission test on December 30 last year.
