Committee formed to assess feasibility of upgrading Titumir College into university
The Ministry of Education has formed a five-member committee to assess the feasibility of upgrading Government Titumir College in the capital into a university.
The announcement was made in a notification issued by the Ministry of Education today (3 December).
According to the notification, the committee will evaluate the rationale and feasibility of converting the college into a university.
The committee members include a representative from the University Grants Commission (Chairperson), the pro vice chancellor (administration) of Dhaka University, a pro-vice chancellor nominated by the vice chancellor of the National University, joint secretary (University-II Division) of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education.
The deputy secretary (government general university) of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education, will serve as the member secretary.
Earlier in November, students of the college staged demonstrations in Mohakhali, demanding the government's approval for the college's elevation to university status.
During the protests, they descended on the roads, blocking roads and even allegedly attacking a train, leaving many passengers injured.
Later, they suspended their protest after receiving an assurance from the government that a committee will be formed to assess the feasibility of converting the college into a university.
