Educational institutions to remain off till August 31
The education ministry thinks that the virus may aggravate if the educational institutions are reopened after Eid
The government has again extended the closure of all educational institutions in the country till August 31 as a part of measures to prevent the coronavirus spread.
Senior Information Officer of the education ministry Md Adul Khair confirmed it to The Business Standard on Wednesday.
The decision was taken at a joint meeting between the education ministry and the primary and mass education ministry, he said.
On June 15, educational institutions' closure was extended till August 6. On March 16, the government closed all educational institutions to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
Because of the coronavirus, the government is running a distance-learning programme through Sangsad Television. Many private universities have already started online classes too.
Bangladesh reported 35 deaths from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours until Wednesday morning. The official death tally now stands at 3,035.
Besides, 3,009 people tested positive for the deadly virus, taking the total number of officially confirmed cases to 232,194.
In this situation, the education ministry thinks that the virus may aggravate if the educational institutions are reopened after Eid.
